Scout Diagnostics was founded in 2006 to develop and market a new early diagnostic test for Alzheimer’s disease. The testing kit will detect Alzheimer’s at an early stage with greater sensitivity and specificity than is available using current techniques. It will identify certain protein complexes in cerebral spinal fluid which serve as biomarkers to detect Alzherimer's prior to clinical diagnosis. This work is based on research by Mark Lovell and Bert Lynn in the UK Department of Chemistry and UK's Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Dr. Lovell also holds a joint appointment in the UK College of Medicine. Dr Lynn also serves as director of the UK Mass Spectrometry Center. Scout Diagnostics was founded by John Beran, now CEO, Lovell and Lynn.
