LICENSES TO FACULTY STARTUPS
The following UK faculty startups held licenses with the university during FY 07.
- Mersive Technologies (four separate licenses) (Christopher Jaynes, engineering) is developing and redefining the ease with which high-resolution, multi-projector displays can be designed, configured, and maintained. Using the Mersive SolTM Server customers can create unprecedented displays in non-traditional configurations and resolutions. Located in Lexington, KY. www.mersive.com
- Nano-Mite Technologies (Pat Sullivan, medicine) has developed and is currently testing a nano-scale medical device that serves as mitochondrial uncouplers to increase metabolism and result in weight loss. Nano-Mite is focused on controlling obesity—in both humans and pets—using nanotechnology. Located in ASTeCC. www.nano-mite.com
- Agama LLC (Krish Muralidhar, business & economics) is developing a data shuffling procedure for masking data. Located in Lexington, KY.
- Alkymos Inc. (Bob Yokel, pharmacy) is developing, designing, synthesizing, evaluating, and manufacturing chelators and chelator-based devices for laboratory, industrial, animal, and human applications. Located in Lexington, KY.
- Scout Diagnostics (Mark Lovell and Burt Lynn, chemistry) is developing and marketing a new early diagnostic test for Alzheimer’s disease. The testing kit will detect Alzheimer’s at an early stage with greater sensitivity and specificity than is available using current techniques. Lab located in ASTeCC. www.scoutdiagnostics.com
- Haley Tech (Boyd Haley, chemistry) is working to develop water soluble chelators. Located in Lexington, KY.
- IP Pharmaceuticals (Guangxiang Luo, medicine) is developing stable cell lines that produce HCV (hepatitis C virus). Located in Lexington, KY.
- Four Tigers LLC is developing a pipeline of blackberry-based health products that will be marketed as cosmetics, dietary supplements and foods. The company also is developing medical products harnessing the potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of blackberries. Based on research by Russ Mumper. - AllTranz Inc. (Audra Stinchcomb, pharmacy) is developing transdermal delivery of opioid antagonist prodrugs for use in treating addiction and novel oral bioavailable prodrugs, also for use in treating addiction. Corporate office in Lexington, KY.
- Four Tigers Inc. (Russ Mumper, pharmacy) is developing a pipeline of blackberry-based health products that will be marketed as cosmetics, dietary supplements, and foods. The company is also developing medical products harnessing the potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of blackberries. Corporate offices are in Paris, KY.
- NanoMed Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Russ Mumper and Michael Jay, pharmacy) is developing improved therapeutic and diagnostic products to treat or detect cancer and other serious diseases. The company is also developing a blackraspberry gel for oral chemoprevention. Corporate offices in Kalamazoo, MI.
- Outrider Technologies Inc. (John Anthony, chemistry) is developing substituted pentacene compounds for use in semiconductors and other electronic applications. Corporate office in Louisville, KY.
- ParaTechs Inc. (Bruce Webb, entomology) is developing enhancements of the baculovirus expression system for use in protecting crops from insect pests and TSP 14 and polydnavirus cys-motif proteins for use in protecting crops for insect pests (2 separate licenses). - SenseOmics Inc. (Sylvia Daunert, chemistry) is developing a diagnostic test for determination of prostacyclin in plasma. Corporate office in Lexington, KY.
- Tribo-Flow Separations (Fred Payne, ag. engineering; Clair Hicks, animal sciences; John Stencel, Center for Applied Energy Research) is developing a monitoring system for detecting bacterial contamination in liquids. Corporate office in Lexington, KY.

- Prescient Medical Inc. (Robert Lodder, pharmacy) develops diagnostic equipment for identifying vulnerable plaque in the circulatory system. Corporate office in Doylestown, PA.
